Gatorade for Chickens and Ducks

Writer's picture: Carolina Farmer FarmerCarolina Farmer Farmer

Before the heat of summer set in I'd heard about giving chickens Gatorade during the hot weather. So I'd began to research a couple of months ago. Thee best information I can find is that giving them the commercial Gatorade is not a very good idea because of the sugar content. So this apparently is not the safest idea to undertake. The better option is to make your on electrolyte balanced water for your chickens. So I found the best balanced recipe you can use to keep your chickens safe during the upcoming season of summertime heat in the south. It is as follows. Keep your chickens safe.

Homemade Electrolyte Recipe for Chickens

1 gallon warm water ( allow to cool before serving)

12 teaspoons molasses OR 12 teaspoons granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon potassium chloride
