It seems to me that anyone with livestock such as chickens, ducks, rabbits etc would do themselves a great service by planting boat loads of kale this time of year to get it established before the real cold weather sets in. I mean nothing else is really feasible for planting now anyway and your garden beds don't need to be left empty. It's like a classroom full of kids when the teacher leaves the room. Not a good idea. Weeds will take it over in no time. Plus why let the garden area go to waste.
Kale is absolutely nutritious for your livestock and can bring much needed vitamins and minerals during this stressful time when the cold temperatures really set in.
Kale also seems to be very hardy during the cold temperatures and when managed appropriately by cutting leaves instead of the entire plant can become a very sustainable crop that your livestock will appreciate and provide the kale leaves throughout the season.
Kale supplements your regular grain feed and is a huge savings over the long haul .
So it's great for the health of your livestock and saves you money. 💲💰
Now the biggest thing is planning out how much to plant. Issue whatever fills up your garden. Trust me it goes quick. That's why sustainable harvesting is the way to go. And those animals will eat as much as you can provide.
Kale is a nutrition superstar due to the amounts of vitamins A, K, B6 and C, calcium, potassium, copper and manganese it contains. I'm telling you, there's no downside for your animals.
So you've still got a little bit of time for planting. Chop chop. 👨🌾🥬
