Today I turned the chickens loose in the resting side of the garden. Of course I had to fence off the rest of the garden to keep those little garden terrorists at Bay and would very likely tear the garden up from one end to the other. But this time of the year brings up how beneficial chickens are. I mean they provide protein in an endless supply in the form of eggs. Which truly is taken for granted. But the tilling of the garden and the very beneficial fertilizer they provide this time of the year that prepares the ground for the next year's crops is absolutely wonderful. They do all the work and prep and we get the benefits next growing season. Mind you they've got a full fall season to prep the soil but you just can't beat the work they do.
Since we've started prepping our sandy soil these chickens have been invaluable. The amount of work they do is unbelievable. The time it would take me and the work and effort is huge.
I really can't see not having chickens. The value they provide is unmistakable and enormous. Any Gardener should seriously consider the multiple benefits of having chickens. You initially think man eggs would be great . But you never think of all of the fruits and vegetables that you enjoy out if your garden that wouldn't do nearly as well without the benefit of chickens.
So yes this time of year is the winding down of the growing season for the most part but it's also time to reinvigorate your soil for the next growing season and that can't be done with a bag of chemicals.
So if you are a Gardener I think one of the most important gardening tools you can have is chickens.đ
